Ruth Alice (Houston) Olson

Ruth Alice (Houston) Olson, age 90, of Barron, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, April 8th, 2018 surrounded by family at her home in Dove Healthcare, Rice Lake.

She was born August 4th, 1927 in Cumberland, WI to Kenneth and Lila Houston and was the second eldest of 6 children.  After graduating from Cumberland High School, she and her sister, Helen (Selvig) Kosman, spent a couple years living and working in St. Paul, Minnesota, which she cherished.  But they eventually moved back to the area where she met and married Owen C. Olson of Barron on May 7th, 1949.

Alice was a fun-loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.  She loved to host cocktail parties at their home in Barron and cabin on Shell Lake.  She was a card shark that won most games right up until the end.  She could be found most days in the kitchen as she loved to cook and bake.

Surviving are children Judith (Arthur) Weinert of Oshkosh and Dennis (Carol) Olson of Eau Claire; grandchildren are Michelle (Joshua) Lien of Eau Claire, Amanda Olson of Eau Claire, Heidi (Jody) Stamper of Lawrenceburg, KY, and Megan Weinert of Silverdale, WA; great-grandchildren Logan Olson-Bengtson and Camden Lien.  She is survived by sister-in-law Jerry Houston of Rice Lake, and brother-in-law Robert Ricci of Cumberland.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her great-granddaughter; and siblings Helen, Betty, Roberta, Delores, and Donald.

A special thank you to the staff at Dove Healthcare in Rice Lake who loved, cared for and treated her like the Queen she is in her last years.  Also, to her “neighbors” in Dove, Carol and Gladys, for helping her through Bingo and being there for each other.

A memorial service for Ruth Alice will be Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Jody Stamper and Rev. Mary Anne Conklin officiating at Rausch and Steel Funeral Home in Barron.  Visitation will be from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. before the service at the funeral home.
