Sound familiar? | Norman Jensen

In the year 1949, George Orwell published a novel titled “1984” in which he describes a futuristic totalitarian government that used continuous propaganda and mind control to convince citizens they had the best of all worlds, while the government officials enriched themselves on the workers’ labor.

Citizens were endlessly told government policies were providing the good life, when in fact, they were doing the opposite. Up was really down. Forward was really backward. Citizens fell for it.  Any claim to the contrary was rejected as “false news.” Sound familiar?

Current event: As recently reported by Bloomberg news, a policy proposal by the U.S. Department of Labor would allow establishment owners to keep the tips that were given to servers and “redistribute” them to kitchen workers and “others,” for the “benefit of all workers.”  One result would be billions of dollars of tip money “skimmed” from low-wage servers. No worry – just another pro-worker policy by our of-the-people, by-the-people, and for-the-people populist government.
