ST. CROIX FALLS – A body discovered by two hunters Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, has been identified as 49-year-old Vue Her of Oakdale, Minn., the kayaker who went missing in July on the St. Croix River.
Authorities were notified at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday that hunters had found what appeared to be a deceased person near the St. Croix River bottoms of the Interstate Park off of CTH S, north of 113th Ave.
Upon Sheriff Department personnel locating the deceased person, it appeared that person had been at that location for some period of time. Investigators were unable to locate any type of possible identifying information for the person at the scene. The Polk County Sheriff’s Department is looking to formally identify the person with the assistance of the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka County Minnesota.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office of Anoka MN positively identified the remains. The manner of death is still pending at this time. Further information will be released pending further investigation.
Her went missing Wednesday, July 12, at about 8 p.m. His kayak was found on the Wisconsin side of the river, with vehicle keys and a tackle box inside. His vehicle was also lcoated at Interstate Park Minnesota at Taylors Falls.
Family members said Her was a strong swimmer and an experienced kayaker. Each year he and his brother went kayaking together on the St. Croix but this was the first time he had gone by himself.
