Widows’ Ball to benefit Benjamin’s House

CUMBERLAND – It’s that time of year, when guys go off into the woods to get their deer, and women tend to the home front. On Wednesday, Nov. 1, in downtown Cumberland, deer-hunting widows will gather for food, wine and a play about guys going off into the woods to get their deer. The Widows’ Ball is being held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Peter & Annie’s World Market and the adjacent Dancing Bird Art Studio and Gallery. After food and wine, the women will go up the street to Cumberland’s fine arts center, the ETC, short for Enrichment Through Culture, for a special performance of “Guys & Does,” the deer-hunting musical. The cost of the evening is $30, with proceeds going to Benjamin’s House, the Rice Lake shelter for people who end up homeless for various reasons. Appetizers are being donated by Peter & Annie’s, Lairdchurch B&B, The Turn restaurant, Louie’s Finer Meats and Lisa Barrows. Island Wines is donating the wine. Tickets are available at Peter & Annie’s and the Dancing Bird. For more information, call Larry Werner at 612-743-5117.
