Unity/SCF soccer defeats Somerset, ties Cumberland

Unity/SCF 5, Somerset 1

Unity/SCF 2, Cumberland 2

BALSAM LAKE – Unity/St. Croix Falls soccer played a couple of games over the last week starting with a game against Somerset on Friday, Sept. 29. They won the game 5-1 after a slow start, giving up a goal in the first 10 minutes. They didn’t allow another goal from that point forward according to coach Nick Stewart.

“The team battled back, maintained possession, and put together good scoring opportunities. We were able to maintain possession quite well in the second half and ended up scoring five unanswered goals.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the team took another road trip to Cumberland, and finished with a 2-2 tie. Unity/SCF moved to a 7-2-3 overall record.

“Both teams worked very hard and the game had a playoff-like intensity from start to finish. Both teams maintained possession well and had numerous scoring opportunities. Even though this game ended in a tie, it was a good experience for the players,” Stewart said.

Unity/SCF will be bringing back home for their next game on Thursday, Oct. 5, against Spooner/Shell Lake, starting at 4:30 p.m., at Unity High School.
