SPOONER – The Tipping Point Book Club meets the first Thursday of each month at the Spooner Memorial Library, from 6:30 to 8p.m. Everyone is welcome. This Thursday, Oct. 5, the club is discussing, “Evicted: Poverty and profit in the American City.” There are copies of the book in the library and it may be purchased at Northwind Books in Spooner as well.
Matthew Desmond, author of Pulitzer Prize-winning book, which details the plight of eight households in Milwaukee caught up in the vicious cycle of eviction, spent years living among Milwaukee’s low-income families who struggle to afford and maintain stable housing.
Each year, millions of families in the U.S. are evicted from their homes. Families with children are evicted at much higher rates and children who experience eviction often face high rates of mobility and unstable living environments that can have a negative impact on their education, physical health, mental health, and interpersonal relationships.
